Meet Gladamear

Posted on

I have decided to post character descriptions in a new category aptly titled “Character Descriptions”.  These descriptions will be longer than the overviews I will present in “Characters in TSOM”.  I’m going to do it this way so that “Characters in TSOM” won’t get so crowded and long that you won’t have time to read all the way through it.  This way, you can read a lengthier summary of a character at your leisure if you go to the category “Character Descriptions”, whereas in “Characters in TSOM” you can find a short and simple overview of the characters.

Gladamear is Terren’s brother.  I would prefer not to reveal too much about Gladamear, but the very fact that I am going to describe him gives away what I wanted to keep secret.  Yes, that sounded tricky 🙂  If you have read “Sneak Peek at ‘I Was Called’!”, you know what I’m talking about.

Appearance

Gladamear could be considered handsome, but he is only averagely handsome.  He is slightly taller than the average man, but still shorter than Terren.  He has a thin build; he is not skinny, but its obvious that he just doesn’t have as much meat on his bones as other men.   He has a round, youthful face, with a round nose.  He has small ears, and short (at least at the beginning of the book), thick blonde hair that parts on both sides of his forehead.  His lips are neither thin nor full, but right in the middle.  His hands are large, and his feet are mildly large too.  His eyes are brown and large, and they seem to be filled with sadness, confusion, and awe.  There is also a hint of bashfulness and self-consciousness in his expression, as if he is trying to gain approval from those he looks up to.  Even though he is an adult, he is often in humble submission to his self-pity, as well as his feelings of awe, respect, and amazement, which he possesses quite frequently.  All of this can be seen by the way Gladamear carries himself; either with confidence, or with subtle, but unmistakable countenances of doubt, uncertainty, or awe.

Personality and Purpose

Gladamear’s personality was almost summed up while I was describing what you can deduce about him by looking at his eyes.  He’s not an open book, if I made it seem as if he is, but you can indeed discern some things about his personality by the way he looks and behaves.  Gladamear is generally quiet, but he likes to make jokes.  He is always searching for approval, as if he lacks self-esteem.  Despite an unmanly past, he tries to live up to his manhood and struggles to do the right thing.  He wants to find his own way to aid Montairyus and help others, especially his family and friends, but he is often confused as to how to do this.  His methods for aiding the group in their quest to rescue Earyis are somewhat different from theirs too, which brings me about to his purpose.  Unfortunately, because I don’t want to spoil the story, I will refrain from mentioning his whole purpose to the story, and say only that he travels with Terren on his journey to rescue Earyis, and that he does a great service for Terren and his companions.  We don’t know much about Gladamear, but he is a distinct, likable character, and as Terren’s brother, he plays a significant role in “I Was Called”.
